Tell a Story Day

Are you a good storyteller?  If yes, this is your day!  Today is National Tell a Story Day, and if there’s one thing spending a lot of time in an MMO like Wizard101 or Pirate101, you end up with a lot of great stories from your time spent playing with your friends.

We asked our Community Managers to tell a story from their time playing Wizard101 and Pirate101, and here’s what they had to say.

Tom

I’ll never forget the great times I’ve spent playing Wizard101 with my family. At first, I was playing side-by-side with my kids and then eventually side-by-side with my wife.  Even the “great tragedies” were a lot of fun. For instance, the first time I won Crowns, I was holding on to them to buy something really great. Much to my surprise my son snuck on my account and instead purchased the cosmetic Santa Suit for me behind my back, which is still really great – just not what I particularly wanted at the time. I still like to stitch the Santa boots to my outfit as a reminder of how funny I thought it was.

For Pirate101, I actually remember my times flying around the skyways in the Beta test when things were very rough and unfinished. I also remember chatting with Paige Moonshade constantly and comparing how far along in the game we were.  The hardest part was not being able to tell her that I was soon going to be an employee of KingsIsle as the Pirate101 Community Manager!

Other great Pirate101 memories center on the really difficult fights and quests at the beginning of the game before they were toned down.  Remember that original Stormzilla fight before it was made easier?  If you beat it back then, I’m sure you do! Make sure to pat yourself on the back . . . good job! You probably have a great story about that to share for Story Day.

Leala

One of my favorite memories of the early days playing Wizard101 was “Mali-fest” in 2010. Back before Celestia was added to the game, the highest level was 50 and the pentacle of challenge in game was defeating the first incarnation of Malistaire. My Wizard had reached the max level and was ready to face off against the bane of the Spiral. I thought, why not make an event of it and celebrate with friends?

mali-fest

Back before Twitch was such a staple in gaming, we used Livestream to host a stream of our dungeon run with an audience of the community. We called the stream “Mali-fest” and took 4 Grandmaster Necromancers to face off against the former Death professor. I joined up with some players who you may be familiar with including Thomas Lionblood (Tom aka Professor Dworgyn nowadays), Stephen Spiritcaller from Spiral Radio and Fallon Shadowblade who used to run the website Diary of a Wizard. We had a blast exploring the dungeon and joking around as we battled our way to the end. It was truly a highlight for me, back in my days as a fan site owner for Wizard101.

Talk Like Shakespeare Day 2016

Did thou knowest William Shakespeare would arriveth at the ripe olde age of 452 years old today, April 23, 2016?

Mayhaps in celebration of Talk Like Shakespeare Day, thou may enjoyest this ode to the Spiral.

To be a Wizard, or to be a Pirate

To be a Wizard, or to be a Pirate – that is the question:

Whether ‘tis nobler in the Spiral to sail

The skyways in search of fortune

Or to cast spells against a world of monsters,

And by opposing end them. To fizzle – to dodge-

No more; and by a spell to say the best

The battle board, and a thousand spark shooters

That game is heir to. ‘Tis a conundrum

Devoutly to be chosen. To fizzle – to dodge.

To dodge- perchance to riposte; ay there’s the rub!

For in that dodge or fizzle what spells may come

When we have shuffled our cards,

Must give us levels. There’s the respec

That makes Jane Canary have so much agility.

For who would bear the critical attacks in PVP,

Th’ opponent’s wrong, the proud use of Open Chat,

The pangs of Bad Juju, the stun’s delay,

The inside of Ambrose’s office, and the spams

That patient merit of th’ newbie takes,

When he himself might his Menu Chat make

With a crafting quest? Who would these mistwood bear,

To fail to defeat under a weary quest,

But that the dread of “did not collect”-

The undiscover’d Spiral, from whose bourn

No traveller spins in circles- puzzles the Wizards,

And makes us rather complete those quests we have

Than take side quests that we know not of?

Thus choice does make newbies of us all,

And thus the native hue of our sails

Is matched with the pale pink of our companions,

And enterprises of great quests and battles

With this regard their companions turn awry

And lose the name of action. – Fizzle now!

The fair Ophelia Moonreach!- Vendor of Wysteria

Be all my friends rememb’red.

Top Ten Hang Out Spots in Wizard101

Happy Hang Out Day, Wizards! To celebrate this wonderful holiday and how much we all love to kick back and chill with our friends in the Spiral, we made a list of our 10 favorite hang out spots in Wizard101!

#1: The Commons – This is definitely the number one place to park your mount and shoot the breeze.  You have to admit it: The Wizard City Commons is the perfect spot to hang out in Wizard101! Now that fishing is all the craze, there’s even something cool to do while you chill. Gotta catch ‘em all.

#2: Gamma’s Room – There’s not much to do in Gamma’s Room but sit and hang out with everyone’s favorite Strigiforme (that’s a fancy way to say owl–see all the cool things you can learn when you hang out?) and check out the glowing lights of the Spiral.  It’s a small space with a lot of personality – great for small gatherings.

#3: The Bazaar – This is the Wall Street of Wizard101. After you’re done hanging out with Elik, sniping reagents, and doing your wizzy biz, there’s plenty of people in the same location to chat with.

#4: Dr. Katzenstein’s Dance Floor – This one is kind of an exclusive spot in Marleybone that’s going to be limited to four people, but once you pull that final lever in Dr. Katzenstein’s lab and electrify the floor . . . it’s time for the whole group to start busting a move on the dance floor!

#5: Castle Tours top 10 – The top houses on the housing tours are very inviting and show off the skills of the very best decorators . . . or at least those that have a welcoming gauntlet dungeon nearby for you to use.

#6: Pet Pavillion – You’ll be sure to see a bunch of wizards gathering here, and they’ll mostly be bunched up around their favorite mini-game.  There’s always time to sit and chat between working on your new favorite “pet project” in the Pet Pavilion.

#7: Class Towers – This choice is a bit old school, but who remembers the days of “Party in the Ice Tower”? We do!  The class tower parties in Wizard101 are legendary.

#8: Olde Town Team Up Kiosk – The Team-up Kiosk is a bit of a newer feature, but if you’re a social butterfly, you know you can always meet new people through the kiosk. Helpful and social: you’re awesome Kiosk vultures!

#9: Daily Assignment spot for the day – This one’s brand new, but it’s also been a great way to see other wizards.  If you’re doing your daily assignments, you’re sure to run into someone else looking for the same thing you are.  Why not stay and hang out for a while after you complete your assignment? You may just end up meeting someone new.

#10: Your Favorite Wizard101 Fan Site – Ok, so this one isn’t in game, but we know you love to talk and hangout outside the game too! Whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Wizard101 Central, a favorite blogger site, or our own Message Boards, take a moment to drop by and say hello today.

Didn’t find your favorite hangout spot on our list?  Leave us a comment and let us know how you plan to hang out in Wizard101 today.

Happy 101st Day of the Year

We don’t know a lot of organizations out there in the world that celebrate the 101st day of the year, but who better to celebrate this momentous day than KingsIsle Entertainment?  We are the makers of Wizard101 and Pirate101 after all!  So let’s celebrate this simple day and raise our potion bottles to the games we all love.

Now that we’re all in agreement that we should celebrate, what should we do?  First things first, you should head over to Wizard101.com and redeem the code “101day” for a free 101 Crowns!  That code will also get you a free Ultra dandelion plant for your garden in Wizard101—so head over to your garden and get that planted right away.  Also bundled with our special 101st day of the year code is a free 101 eyepatch for Pirate101.  Now that’ll show your pride to everyone you see in Pirate101 today.

If you’re level 101 or higher in Wizard101, make sure you put on your Excelsior title in game and show off your pride for the day—that’s the special badge you get for obtaining level 101 and today’s a great day to show it off.

101

Ever wondered why there’s a “101” in Wizard101 and Pirate101? Back in the early 1900’s, colleges and universities began using a three-digit course number system and a “101” level course was an introductory course.  In Wizard101 you’re a new student attending Ravenwood, a school of magic, and thus “101” refers to you being a wizard in training.  Wizard101 set the standard and Pirate101 followed suit. Pirates in Pirate101 are pirates in training, and your instructors on Skull Island are ready to help you unlock your potential. With that said, perhaps a good way to celebrate the 101st day of the year is to learn something new!

Head back to this blog post and let us know what you did with your 101 Crowns and tell us how you celebrated today.

Thanks for playing our games!
